to visit the indigenous community of Terra Preta (Black Earth), where members
of the Baniwa, Nhengatú and Tukanos live peacefully together. This
excursion within the community will offer you a fascinating glimpse into
the lives and customs of these people of the forest.
Following your visit to the Indian community,
the Yanna will sail on to an area of outstanding natural beauty known as
“Três Bocas” (Three Mouths). You will explore the area aboard
the launches and try and catch a few Black Piranhas.
After dinner, there will be the un-missable
opportunity to go on a night-time observation of the area’s Jacaré
(alligator) population. This region is most famous for the Jacaré
Açu (Larger Alligator) and Caiman Negro (Black Alligator) who is
the acknowledged king of these islands. You will spend this night aboard
the Yanna, anchored in the heart of the “Três Bocas”, lulled to sleep
by the calls of the nocturnal animals and birds.
Day 3.
After breakfast, we will sail towards the
town of “Acajatuba”, the oldest on the Rio Negro and also one of the most
important in the heyday of Amazonia’s Rubber Boom.
Before exploring the town itself, we will
visit the white sandy beach of Praia Grande. We will be there at lunch
time, and food will be served in a shady spot on the beach. You will
then be ready for a pleasant and leisurely visit of the town of Acajatuba.
Following your tour of the town, the motor
launches will take you for a trip around Acajatuba Lake.
We will spend the night close to the town.

motor launches will take you to dry land where you will be led on a fascinating
excursion, led by a local guide, explaining the mysteries of the local
flora and fauna.

of aspects of the rainforest that can make it your friend as well as your
enemy. He will show you the secrets of medicinal plants, wild-growing fruit
and a general explanation of the planet’s greatest natural laboratory.
After lunch, you will travel on in the
launches to the mouth of the Rio Ariaú, where after a tour of these
magnificent surroundings, you will be invited for a late afternoon cup
of coffee in the house of a local inhabitant. His home, of considerable
local and cultural interest has its own cassava plantation and flour mill.

the black water of the Negro, flowing side by side with the muddy waters
of the Solimões. After several miles, they finally blend and give
