Day 1.
Arrival
and transfer by air-conditioned mini bus to the Yanna. Welcome drinks
and allocation of cabins.
We set sail towards the meeting of the
rivers, sailing past the city with views of the historical buildings, the
municipal market, the floating port, the buildings both floating and on
stilts.
After observing the spectacle of the rivers
Negro and Solimões where the former’s black water flows side by
side with the milky coffee coloured water of the latter for several miles,
we will sail on to a place called “Xiborema”, a natural canal that flows
between the Rio Negro and the Solimões.
Sailing down the Xiborena canal, you will
see small villages some made of floating houses and enjoy the lush vegetation
of the area. Upon emerging into the Rio Solimões, you will
be able to feel the extraordinary power of this mighty river even before
it joins with the Rio Negro to become the mighty Amazon River.
Our next port of call will be the ecological
park of “Janauary” where the outboards will speed you into the fascinating
“Igapós” (flooded forests) and winding along the local canals and
streams. You will visit a floating market where locals sell regional
handicrafts, and then a short hike to a lake to see the Vitorias Regias,
the largest aquatic plant in the world. You will also be invited
to stroll amidst the tree-tops on a suspended viewing footbridge; the ideal
way to enjoy a close-up look at the wealth of birds and monkeys that inhabit
the upper levels of the rainforest.
After dinner, if you should so wish, there
is an optional, night time excursion into the Park in the motor boats to
observe and listen to the nocturnal creatures.
Day 2.
After breakfast, we set sail up the Rio
Negro as far as “Jaraqui” where you will be taken on a hike by a local
guide who will show and explain how to find food and medicine and how the
Indians find the means to build their dwellings.
During this fascinating excursion which
lasts approximately 5 hours, you will be given in depth demonstrations
and instructions in the techniques of survival in the forest. The
trip is rounded off with a re-invigorating swim in the waters of the Rio
Jaraqui.
After
returning the Yanna, we sail on to the Anavilhanas Archipelago, made up
of a staggering 380 mapped islands. We will anchor close to the largest
among them and go on another outing in the launches to take in this stunning
landscape and observe the bird life that includes parrots, paraqueets,
ducks among many others.
After dinner, you may wish to go on a further
outing to observe the nocturnal creatures of the area.
Day 3.
After breakfast, during which you may well
enjoy the attentions of curious grey and pink dolphins, you will be taken
to the community of Terra Preta (Black Earth), where members of the Baniwa,
Nhengatú and Tukanos tribes co-exist in harmony and work to preserve
the social and linguistic traditions of their cultures.
We then return to the Yanna and go on to
a place known as “Três Bocas” (Three Mouths) where, after lunch,
you will be invited to try your hand at, or if you prefer, only watch,
a spot of Piranha fishing.
After dinner, there will be the un-missable
opportunity to go on a night-time observation of the area’s Jacaré
(alligator) population. This region is most famous for the Jacaré
Açu (Larger Alligator) and Caiman Negro (Black Alligator)
Day 4.
After breakfast, we sail towards the beautiful
“Praia Grande”. During the dry season, it becomes a 9km long beach of clean
white sand. You will have the opportunity to relax on the beach and
take a refreshing swim in the Rio Negro. Then, back aboard the Yanna,
we begin our final sail back to Manaus along the right hand bank of the
river.
Once back in Manaus we finish off our service
by organising your transfer by air conditioned minibus to the airport or
to the hotel of your choice. |
